On the 7th of December, the French A level students had the opportunity to visit the Institut Francais and the Cine Lumiere in the heart of South Kensington, to watch the Film “Bande de Filles” a 2014 French drama directed by Céline Sciamma. The day began with a workshop with students from other schools and colleges. we explored and challenged the themes of race, gender, violence and class, as well as the negative perceptions of French Suburbs. These topics form part of the A level course and so it was worthwhile and refreshing to learn in a different environment. The trip also encouraged me to see the link between what is learnt in the classroom and its benefits in daily life. The trip has definitely sparked an interest in French film and culture for the group.
