There has been a high level of UCAS support at the College throughout the year as always, and depending on the year group, different aspects of the application process have been covered with all the students.
The A2 and A1 students are now reaching the end of their school careers, and all of them have worked extremely hard to submit competitive and well-organised UCAS applications. Following the college’s traditional success in this area, they have received excellent offers for their degree choices, with the majority of the students obtaining offers from all five universities. By the 8th June, all students will have made their CF and CI choices, and it is now down to pure hard work to secure the highest grades in the summer exams.
With the exam and revision period underway, the AS students have also have the pressure of studying hard so that they get the best possible results for their exams. Whilst most subjects are still being formally examined for an AS grade, other exams are for internal assessment only. Predicted grades will be set next term, and these will reflect an overall view of student performance both for homework as well as for the exam results.
During the spring term Sarah Galea, the college higher education adviser, has helped the A2 and A1 students finalise their CF and CI choices. Also, every AS student has had a one-to-one appointment to discuss their options for university degrees, and in April Katherine Pagett from Birmingham University gave a talk on ‘Applying to University and Personal Statements.’
We are planning a series of UCAS events for AS students after the exam period ends, as from Monday 19th June. We have guest speakers on specific subjects, and workshops aimed at helping students with researching degrees and the early stages of the UCAS 2018 application.
Furthermore it is a pleasure to welcome back Bina Mervana to the careers department after her maternity leave. Careers appointments are available to all students at any time; all they need to do is book directly via their college email with the careers advisers. Both Sarah and Bina are extremely experienced as both are qualified to post graduate level in careers guidance and have many years of experience in advising sixth form students.
