Eminent Psychotherapist to visit Brampton College to deliver talk for Barnet parents
Eminent psychotherapist Emil Jackson is to visit Brampton College, North West London to present a talk open to local parents on ‘Understanding and Surviving Adolescence’. The talk, part of a series for parents, hosted by the college, supports its central emphasis on student wellbeing and parental engagement as well as academic success. Brampton College is the highest achieving sixth form college in London.
The talk will take place on 27 November from 6:30 – 8 pm at Brampton College, Lodge House, Lodge Road, London, NW4 4DQ and will address why adolescence can be such a challenging time, as well as the ways parents can best support their children. The talk aims to help parents develop a good understanding of what is ‘normal’ behaviour in order to know when concerns should be addressed.
Held at Brampton College, the session will explore the reasons adolescence can be volatile – not just for young people but for all those around them. Often parents are unsure how best to support their children and may have concerns and fears about their child’s behaviour. In many cases parents may feel unable to differentiate between an ordinarily challenging adolescent development and behaviour that might indicate a deeper problem. Within this talk Mr Jackson will discuss some of the central anxieties and difficulties commonly experienced by adolescents and consider the impact of these on the adolescents themselves, as well as their families – especially their parents.
Mr Jackson is Head of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy in the Adolescent and Young Adult Service at the Tavistock Clinic, the leading specialist mental health trust, and has worked in the field of psychotherapy and mental health for over 20 years.
