GCSE English Results Buck National Trends

Posted: 20th August 2014

Students at Brampton College studying GCSE English Language and Literature were delighted with their results yesterday which bucked national trends. Following Mr Gove’s reforms of the assessment procedures for GCSE generally and English Language in particular, newspapers have been full of the percentage falls in pass rates and the ‘volatile’ nature of schools’ results.

Each year, Brampton College has a relatively small number of students studying a programme of GCSE subjects as well as in-coming students who are looking to improve their previous English Language grade in preparation for application to university. Our specialist tutors, Eileen McKniff and Gabriela Demko, deliver the EdExcel IGCSE specifications in Language and Literature. This summer our students gained 100% A*-C grades with over 50% achieving A*/A.

Congratulations to staff and students – many of the latter going on to study AS levels in College, including English Literature.
