Biology Field Trip Autumn 2016

Posted: 17th October 2016

The A2 Biologists went on a residential trip to Juniper Hall near Box Hill in deepest Surrey. The Jacobean mansion and grounds are only 15 miles from London but a haven for nature.

Sarah and Jack (our tutors) took us out on our varied mix of activities: river sampling, pond dipping and mammal trapping. We also did a range of plant sampling activities involving measuring tape, quadrats, thermometers, statistics and plant identification keys.

The A1 students took controlled assessments. All of the students carried out thorough investigations that would have been impossible to do without staying for the 3 days. As it was we didn’t leave the classrooms until well after 8 pm. The students then were able to relax in the Hall’s grounds with their music and a bit of a ‘festival vibe’. All in all it was a thoroughly productive trip and enjoyed by all!
