74% A*/A grades mean record-breaking GCSE results for Brampton College

Posted: 22nd August 2018

Students have just achieved the College’s best ever GCSE results today with:

74% 9-7 (A*/A) versus 20% nationally

47% 9/8 (A*) versus 6.5% nationally (legacy)

17% top grade 9 versus 4% nationally

The College excelled in subjects such as English Literature which had 80% 9-7 grades, Mathematics which had 79% 9-7, and Chemistry which had 79% A*/A grades. This is an incredible outcome, and we want to say a huge congratulations to all our students.

This is the first year in which pupils have been graded by a 1-9 number system as opposed to the traditional A*-G grading. 9 is the highest and 1 the lowest. 9, 8 and 7 correspond to the current top grades of A* and A and this has been designed to give more differentiation at the top end. 9 has been awarded to fewer pupils than A* was previously.

Eli Landau-Pope, who came from JCoSS, has achieved 7 A*s (grades 9-8). She says,

I’m very shocked and very, very happy! Brampton has lived up to expectations. I’m staying on here to study my A levels and I’m hoping to go on to university to possibly study design engineering.”

Lucy Abrahams has achieved an amazing A*A*A*A*A and says

I want to thank Brampton for being amazing. The teachers genuinely care and are passionate about you succeeding. They are always on hand if you need extra support and always ensure you understand what’s being taught. Unlike other schools where you’re just a number, here you’re a person. Brampton’s like a family, I feel cared for and nurtured. I’d like to thank them for making the year so fun and ultimately successful!”

Zak Singer has just picked up an incredible A*A*AAAAB. His father, who accompanied him, is delighted with his results.

Brampton has been so supportive in helping Zak organise himself. The personalised tuition and personal support has helped tremendously. He’s improved academically, but is also definitely more confident in his own abilities.”

Susan Young, Head of GCSEs at Brampton, says

The GCSE results are just amazing and I’m so proud of all our students. These results reflect a year of hard work and sheer determination from students and staff alike. The students have benefited from small classes, experienced and caring teachers and individual attention, academically and personally.”
