The IGCSE Biology course is a fascinating and broad introduction to Biology. It is quite traditional (a bit like the old O level) and requires a good understanding of the practical steps needed to carry out valid experiments. Rather than just read about the experiments in the text book, we like to put on lab coats and safety specs and carry out the experiments for ourselves. The GCSE students dedicate around one lesson each week in practical classes exploring Biology. Here is Torin dissecting a sheeps’ eye. We looked at the layers that make up the eye and the optic nerve. We took out the lens and saw how it could magnify text.
Other recent practicals have included heart dissection and osmosis in potato chips.
