Charity Committee 2016-17

Posted: 16th October 2016

Every year Brampton students form a Charity Committee to run fundraising events in college supporting charities of their choice. This year we have an enthusiastic group of 11 students who have chosen to support Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice and Mind. Last year’s group raised over £4000 for Noahs’ Ark and we hope to exceed this amount this year.

Dan Jacobson, one of the students on the committee, writes why they chose these charities to support:

Students at Brampton have chosen two charities this year: Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice and Mind. Noah’s Ark is a hospice based in Barnet and they care for children under the age of 19 who live with life limiting illnesses and disabilities. We chose them last year and the college has a good relationship with the charity and they have offered work experience placements to students in the community fundraiser department. They are also a local charity so supporting them is supporting the local community and these are only a few reasons for choosing this charity.

The other charity is Mind, which is a charity that helps with mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety. Many students and teens suffer from such illnesses at some point, some more severe than others, and such topics can be hard to bring up or talk about. Choosing this charity seemed appropriate since there may be students in the college who have suffered or know someone who is currently suffering and it is necessary to raise awareness and help such a relevant situation.

The first event of the year, a bake sale, raised £300 for these 2 charities. There was a delicious selection of cakes, cookies and sweets baked by students and staff.

The next event in the calendar is a Pajama and Onsie Dress Up Day on November 23rd.
