Posted: 10th March 2015

Brampton’s A level Geography student have had a busy term!

AS geographers completed fieldwork at the Field Study Council’s Epping Forest Field Centre, Juniper Hall Field Centre and London Projects respectively. The first day involved a slippery storm discharge experiment to investigate the relationship between slope type and run-off. Students additionally took river channel measurements and calculated risk ratings at twelve different sites during a flood walk. Next students explored rural rebranding in the Mole Valley by collecting data at two former livestock farms now operating as a vineyard and children’s petting zoo. Finally the success of urban rebranding was evaluated by undertaking surveys at London Docklands. A short journey on the DLR lead to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park where it was interesting to visit the former Athletes’ Village (now East Village) that is already 60% occupied by new residents. The day finished in the Lee Valley VeloPark where students were able to watch impressive cycling – a highlight for many!
