GCSE Trip to The Globe Theatre

Posted: 16th November 2017

The Globe Theatre

On Thursday 9th November our IGCSE Literature cohort enjoyed a day of learning and exploration at the Globe Theatre as part of their study of Macbeth. They were lucky enough to stand on the famous stage, explore the Tiring Room backstage and to learn about the intricacies of the theatre up close and under expert guidance. The majority of the day was taken up with workshops in the Globe rehearsal rooms led by an experienced Shakespearean actor. The students learned to interpret the text through the drama of key scenes and certainly deepened their interpretation of the play by acting out conflicts and drawing out the emotions and motivations of characters. A real highlight was the iambic pentameter ‘haka’ workshop that saw the students interacting with the rhythm of the verse in a really exciting, fun and novel way. It was an incredible day of learning and enrichment for students and staff alike.

We are delighted to announce that Emma Bell, former Head of St James Senior Girls’ School, has been appointed as Principal and will take over from John in August this year.
