A2 English Literature students took part in a bespoke workshop on ‘Hamlet’ led by Sarah Finch. ‘Hamlet’ is our set text and this was an opportunity to take the words off the page and on to the stage. Sarah is a professional actress who has worked for amongst others, the RSC and the BBC. The workshop was a fantastic combination of acting, games and close analysis of ‘Hamlet’ which students thoroughly enjoyed. Among other things students learnt why we have a ‘box office’. This comes from the Tudor money box in which the takings were stored.
Sarah also showed us her copy of the First Folio and students did exercises based on a version of the playscript which the original Globe actors would have used. Sarah also shared with the students some of her experiences of performing Shakespeare around the world. Her latest project is a multimedia production based on the diaries of Etty Hillesum. The play marks the 80th anniversary of Etty’s death in Auschwitz on November 30th 1943 and is produced by ‘the Lions Part’ theatre company.
Here are some wonderful photos of the afternoon by our very own Gabriel, an AS Photography student.
