Congratulations to Maisie and Kitan, two of our AS students, who have successfully passed the French Intermediate Level Certificate called DELF B1 Junior. Well done to them on this outstanding achievement. After achieving excellent results in their GCSE French last year, both students were keen to maintain and develop their language skills beyond GCSE Level without taking A Level French. With this goal in mind, they undertook preparation for the DELF B1 Junior qualification through a weekly 40-minute French tutorial over a five-month period with Olivier, Head of MFL and a qualified DELF examiner, before taking the exam at the Language Centre of the French Institute in March.

Here are their testimonies:

I really enjoyed doing the DELF at B1 level this year. After studying my GCSE French with Olivier last year and really enjoying it, I was eager to continue my French journey at Brampton. This course enabled me to continue learning French as a sort of halfway point between GCSE and A-Level. Our sessions throughout the year were interactive and the individual attention we received helped me to work on my individual weaknesses and therefore my French improved greatly. The exam seemed daunting at first as there were components in the speaking section that relied on you having to answer spontaneously to unprepared role play scenarios. However, with lots of practice and feedback during the sessions, it became achievable, and I felt confident on exam day. It was an amazing experience overall.” Maisie, student

“Preparing the DELF Junior B1 examination gave me the opportunity to develop a deeper appreciation of and proficiency in the French language and culture. The tutorials were interactive and engaging, allowing me to be fully immersed in the language and sharpen my linguistic skills. Initially, I found the oral component of the exam to be daunting, as one of the task was to summarize, express your opinion and then discuss the wider issues of an article provided at random. However, with repeated practice and personalised feedback, I grew more confident in this skill and have come to appreciate the immense value it has. Overall, I am grateful for the many exciting experiences I had and the skills I learnt that allowed me to confidently take the exam.” Kitan, student

The DELF (Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française) is an internationally recognised qualification awarded by the French Ministry of Education, that assesses all four skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) at various levels. It is widely recognised by educational institutions and employers, including many UK universities which give external credits to UCAS applicants with a DELF B1 or B2 Level. The College also offers preparation for the Spanish equivalent called DELE. Parents interested in finding out more about the DELF and DELE examinations are encouraged to contact Olivier Tarot, Head of MFL.
