Practicals are an important part of the science subjects. All A level students have to complete a minimum of twelve required practicals which they are assessed on. The evidence of their work is kept in a booklet produced by the college and if they can show that they are able to meet the exam board’s standards by the end of the course, they are awarded a pass in the “practical endorsement”. In recent second year Chemistry A level lessons, students used a series of reactions at different temperatures to calculate the activation energy of a reaction using a graph that they plotted on Excel.
