Last week Year 12 students began their enrichment programme for the year ahead. Students were able to choose from six activities and courses. We have run four of these previously: LAMDA Public Speaking; Boxing classes at The Warehouse; Super Curricular Research Group and EPQ. This year we’re excited to introduce two new activity groups to our Tuesday sessions; Photography; and the Edukid Global Citizenship Volunteer Programme.
The new Edukid Programme has initially proven very popular with students. Edukid is a charity that works to support children living in poverty better access education. It’s currently working alongside communities in Uganda, Cambodia and Peru.
As well as raising funds to pay for children’s school fees and educational materials, it also funds projects to support the immediate needs of children negatively impacted by the effects of climate change, poor medical care and gender inequality. Each Edukid project links to one or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and includes initiatives providing sustainable solar panelled lighting for homes and building wells to provide safe and accessible drinking water.
This year Brampton students and staff will work together to raise funds and awareness for Edukid’s projects in Uganda. Over the coming weeks we will be learning about Edukid’s work, before deciding which projects to directly support. Students will plan, promote and stage fundraising events across the year before hopefully visiting Uganda next October to see first hand the positive impact they have made to children’s lives.
As well as the timetabled Tuesday enrichment sessions, other clubs and activities have started at lunchtimes across the college. Young Enterprise will be continuing this year, as well as the Jewish Society, Duke of Edinburgh Award and football.
