Every fortnight we will share a wellbeing or study tip on the student Google Classroom. On 22nd September, we focussed on a key study tip: make your revision more active and less passive.
Simply re-reading notes can feel productive but doesn’t help information stick. Instead, turn your revision into active learning:
- Flashcards: Write key terms or questions on one side and answers on the other. Test yourself regularly and shuffle the order.
- Close your notes and try to recall what you’ve just learned, or explain it aloud to someone else. Do a “brain dump” – write everything you know about a topic on a piece of paper from memory, then add to it in a different colour from your notes.
- Practise answering real exam questions under timed conditions to check your understanding and improve exam technique. Mark it carefully using the mark scheme and use this to identify topics you need to work on.
This approach strengthens memory, shows you where the gaps are, and makes your revision much more effective.
