A snippet of what’s happening in the College in the run up to Christmas…

Posted: 9th December 2025

This week I have been working with our medical and Oxbridge candidates as they prepare for their upcoming interviews. By the time we break for the Christmas break, several medical applicants will have had their first and second interviews. Oxbridge interviews began on Monday and will run into the following week. I love working with the interviewees directly in this way – I was particularly impressed by our student applying to Architecture at the University of Cambridge and want to credit Hannah and Adam (Art teachers) for her exceptional portfolio which she was very proud to talk me through during our session together.

The highlight of the week was certainly the talk delivered by Ayman from Asylum Speakers who engaged the AS students for nearly an hour on his personal story of fleeing war, torture and the Syrian regime to make his way to London by the most astonishing means you can imagine. Ayman’s words were very powerful and clearly resonated with the students, several of whom I have heard discussing his talk since. It was an apolitical and non-judgmental talk about human suffering, endurance and perseverance and I thank Adam and Resham (teachers) for the opportunity to hear it. Some fantastic things really do happen at this college.

Meanwhile, as we look ahead to Christmas festivities, I’d like to draw your attention to a Christmas exhibition taking place this year at the Museum of the Home in Hoxton entitled ‘Winter Past.’ ‘Winter Past’ invites us to ‘take a seasonal journey through centuries of home, warmth, and celebration.’ But, most importantly is co-curated this year by one of our own, member of the Politics and Business departments, Dermot Harran who has been working throughout the year on the 1956 Irish Christmas room and is a proud contributor and advocate for this exhibition and museum. I’m sure well worth a visit to Hoxton to see this free exhibition (donations welcome)! Link to the exhibition here: Winter Past – Museum of the Home
